We acknowledged in 2018 the impact of arthritis includes both financial burdens, such as healthcare expenses, productivity losses, and the cost of providing care for individuals with arthritis, as well as a decline in overall wellbeing for those affected.

Economic cost of arthritis in New Zealand in 2010

In 2010, more than 530,000 New Zealanders aged 15 and older were affected by at least one form of arthritis. This represented 15.2% of the population in that age group which is roughly one in six individuals. The estimated financial impact of arthritis on New Zealand in 2010 amounted to as estimated $3.2 billion.
