Katy McDermott has been an office volunteer in our Wellington office since September 2012.

Katy was referred to us by Volunteer Wellington who had told her about a role we needed a volunteer for. The role was administration support for the regional coordinator on water-based exercise classes.

After working on water-based exercise classes for a few years, Katy was moved to focus on Appeal related admin. For the last few years she has helped with responses to our donor mails, updating client data on the database, and helps a lot during our Annual Appeal. Katy comes in 2 to 3 days a week.

“I decided to volunteer because I’d just finished a course where I learnt to use a computer and wanted to use my skills to help. I didn’t know much about Arthritis New Zealand at the time – the role just fitted what I wanted to be doing,” she says.

“I would definitely recommend volunteering to anyone considering it.”
