Relief is on the way for hundreds of MidCentral Health patients suffering chronic auto-immune conditions with the anticipated arrival of the district’s new rheumatologist.

Palmerston North Hospital is without its own specialist until the new doctor’s arrival, with chief medical officer Ken Clark conceding one was needed.

A patient who did not want to be identified said she had found it impossible to get an appointment with the sole rheumatologist, who left at the end of 2018.

She said she had been disappointed when her condition flared up recently to find there was no specialist available while she was putting up with pain and exhaustion… (read more)
