Your stories – Lupus
For 40-year-old Leanne from Maungatapere, being able to better manage the effects of lupus meant putting her career on hold.
“About three years ago, I had to give up on working because of the intense fatigue and severe joint pain, which are common symptom of lupus. I just couldn’t cope,” says Leanne.
“Until I learned about Arthritis New Zealand, I didn’t know what support was available. There is so much information out there, it can be hard to know who the experts are, or who you can trust. Working with Arthritis has been fantastic, like a light bulb coming on.”
“I went to the Arthritis New Zealand website and then spoke with one of their amazing Arthritis Educators. They helped me find a support group, as well as an exercise class at the local pool. It has been a great help; I’ve met quite a few other people who have lupus. We’ve since started our own group specific to lupus, which focuses on our issues.”
