Swimming legends races for charity Print

On Saturday 10 April 2010, at the West Wave Aquatic Centre in Waitakere, some of New Zealand’s best ever swimmers will line up to race against each other for charity, including New Zealand medallist, Mark Treffers swimming on behalf of Arthritis New Zealand. Help support him!

It’s the biggest reunion of past swimming champions ever held in New Zealand, and the swimming legends’ races for charity follow immediately on from a Skin’s event, which is a race for money featuring New Zealand’s top swimmers, who the day before, would have finished trialing for 2010 Commonwealth Games selection.

New Zealand Commonwealth Games gold, silver and bronze medallist, Mark Treffers, will be travelling from Canberra where he lives and works, to be the captain of the Arthritis New Zealand team for the swimming legends race, and urges people to get behind the event and donate: “I'll do all the hard work; train for and complete this event, but I really need your help to make a difference to my charity, Arthritis New Zealand.”

Sandra Kirby, Chief Executive of Arthritis New Zealand is looking forward to the exciting fundraising event: “What a fantastic opportunity to raise vital funds for Arthritis New Zealand and also showcase the link of how an exercise like swimming, can be beneficial to those who suffer from arthritis.

“We are hoping the New Zealand community will get behind this entertaining event and our budding Commonwealth Games competitors. Arthritis New Zealand will be behind Mark all the way to first place.”
