Special Breakfast for Young Arthritis Sufferer Print

Lexie Reynolds is getting a special treat this Thursday. She's having breakfast with one of the Dancing with the Stars celebrities, Geraldine Brophy.

Arthritis New Zealand was Brophy's charity of choice for the TVONE show that aired earlier this year. Now she's doing even more for the organisation. She's become their national ambassador, and as part of that she's more than happy to travel around the country to highlight the fact that arthritis can strike anyone at any age.

As part of her ongoing support, Brophy will also be attending a cheque presentation in Invercargill. Arthritis New Zealand was Ryman Healthcare's charity of choice for the last year and as such is presenting a cheque for $150,000 to the organisation on Wednesday evening, 10th June.

"Arthritis is a condition, which has a devastating effect on the lives of many New Zealanders both young and old", said Ryman Healthcare Chief Executive, Simon Challies.

For Brophy, meeting Lexie, helps to illustrate that it's not just the elderly who get this debilitating disease. Now 10-years-old, Lexie was diagnosed with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis when she was just 2.

It affects multiple joints and has severely impacted on her life.  She has required many hospital admissions, and she is on a cocktail of medications. Despite this adversity, she remains a very positive young girl.

Chief Executive of Arthritis New Zealand, Sandra Kirby, said "As a result of the Ryman donation Arthritis New Zealand will now be able to progress a long-held dream to define and expand our work for and with children who have arthritis".

Sandra Kirby and Kathie Smith, President of Arthritis New Zealand's Governing Body, will also be at the breakfast.
