Radius Pharmacy and Arthritis Annual Golf Tournament

18 teams teed off at The Radius Pharmacy Arthritis New Zealand Charity Golf Tournament at Paraparaumu Golf Course on Thursday 25 February 2010. The Arthritis team included Australia’s High Commissioner to New Zealand, Mr Paul O’Sullivan.
The business teams enjoyed the sunshine and playing on the famous golf course, while helping raise vital funds for Arthritis New Zealand. An impressive $20,000 was raised on the day, which included a raffle, activities around the course and an auction.
Sandra Kirby, Chief Executive of Arthritis New Zealand said: “Charity events like this golf day are crucial in raising funds to enable us to provide a variety of services to people with arthritis. Arthritis New Zealand exists to enable a better quality of life for people affected by arthritis. This can only be done with the help of generous organisations like we had today, and their contributions.
“A big thanks to all of our sponsors and donors and we hope they enjoyed their day of golf” said Sandra
There are more than half a million arthritis sufferers in New Zealand and 140 different arthritis conditions. Arthritis is the single greatest cause of disability in New Zealand, and has no known cure. Every year it costs Arthritis New Zealand about $5 million to provide essential services – of which the government funds approximately 10%. The balance of the budget is met through fundraising activities such as this special golf event.
Therefore, funds generated through this event will go towards 1 out of 3 New Zealanders over 45 or 1 out of 6 New Zealanders over 15 years affected by arthritis. |
