The week of 19th to 25th June marks the 2011 Volunteer Awareness Week, with the theme ‘Volunteering – Every Minute Counts’ which hopes to highlight that volunteers provide an invaluable contribution to our society and that every minute of their work counts.
Volunteers play a vital role in Arthritis New Zealand.
From running support and exercise groups’ right through to being members of the Governing Body, each role the kind-heartened volunteers plays, is a major part in the success of the charity.
Andrea is a volunteer at Arthritis New Zealand’s National Office in Wellington. Andrea came to Arthritis New Zealand through Volunteer Wellington and enjoys volunteering: “I think it’s a 50/50 for me and Arthritis New Zealand. It is great for me to practice my English and be active while looking for a job.”
“Everyone is so friendly and it’s a great way to meet people while helping the community.”
Andrea is also thinking about helping out during the Arthritis Appeal’s street collection day in September.
“Thank you so much to all of our volunteers, this week is all about you and recognising the fantastic and self-less work you do as a volunteer.” said Ms Kirby.
